SLEEP WALKING

There are things in this life that seemed odd and in a glance, can not be related to any logical explanation. Can any one explain how a person in deep sleep can commit murder and assault a love one? There could be a logical explanation from the experts. Though for lay mans mind like mine, it is beyond the realm of my logical analogy.

A man from Toronto, Canada drove 23 kilometers, killed and assaulted his wifes' parents...while sleeping. How is that possible?

HOW TO DEAL WITH UNPLEASANT INSECT

Of all insects, my son despised cockroach. He hated it so much. I do not know why but it has become such a big issue when it comes to these insects. Quite surprising for me because he seldom encounter these creatures. Very seldom indeed. However, just the same, it gets to his nerve. Is it because it transfers microbes that could be dangerous to humans? Well, i think it is as simple as the fact that cockroach really gets in the nerve of my child. Maybe it is the same way as rats really gets to my nerve as well. Or maybe it is because they are just plain nuisance specially when they fly.. Unpleasant really.

In order to assist my son, i did some asking and roaming around to check how we could eradicate these insects from his room. Seldom as it may, still it appears...and flies. Here's what i gathered. In order to sustain itself, cockroaches need H2O aka water, of course food and the warm closed locations. Let us deal with each of these three;

1) H2O - Make sure there are no leaks in our faucet. Regardless of whether it is in the kitchen sink or our bathroom. Also, my son and myself have one rule in our simple abode. "If we can not afford to wash our dishes, then we do not have the right to use a plate or a spoon." We practiced that since Vincent learned how to wash dishes. If we can make time to sit and eat, then we should make time to wash our dishes as well. Hence, no dirty plates or spoon or utensils in the kitchen sink particularly and specifically at night. I don't care even if it will be submerged in overflowing water. I had one rule in our little abode. Be responsible to clean your mess, no matter how small. Fortunately, Vincent and myself as well had been diligent to that self imposed rule. My tip, make sure you really squeezed that sponge every time it is used. We also pour it with boiling water on a regular basis. By sponge i mean the one we use to wash our dishes.

2) Food: Cockroaches will eat anything that comes its way. From an inch of paper to card board to crumbs to human food. Gluttony indeed. Hence, it would be an advantage to make sure the food are sealed tight in a hard container. Not plastic bag or anything like that because cockroaches will just eat its way from the plastic or paper to the glorious fiber of the food itself. Also, make sure ovens are free of grease. Cockroaches love them.

3) Warm closed environment. Could be a cabinet, a house of a building. They love papers, cardboard, clothing. They lay their eggs anywhere. The most that we can do is to clean regularly.

Of course, insecticide could also help. However, the main recourse really is to make sure there is a regular clean up. For busy people, it will be easier said than done. But then, we always try and try until we finally perfect it.

I will not put a picture. I hope you do not mind. I do not like the sight of this insect as well.

Always take care of your selves.

FROM ONDOY TO PEPENG

Ondoy left and here comes Pepeng. Another storm is fast approaching Philippines. Actually, the rain was not as hard when i went to work last night. But then, it was stated that the pouring of this rain will be continuous, thus, would ignite more flooded areas. That is really bad. I remembered when i went home last Saturday, i really have to compose myself on every step i made because the current of the flood was quite strong it could caught me unbalanced. Hey, who wants to swim in the flood, right? My co-worker told me that the typhoon will not pass thru Metro Manila anymore. That is good news actually. However, as i watched the updates of the typhoon this morning, it seemed that Pepeng would reach Philippine soil this evening at 8:00pm. So, it is a wait and see. With hopes that this typhoon would still change its course and leave Philippine territory.

The affected areas are Catanduanes, raising storm signal no. 3; Storm signal no. 2 over Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quirino, Northern Quezon (including Polillo Island), Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur; Signal no. 1 over Calayan and Babuyan groups of islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Laguna, Batangas, Cavite, Rizal, the rest of Quezon, Marinduque, Albay, Burias Island, Sorsogon, and Metro Manila. This is from the news of Philippines Star today. Pres. Arroyo also declared RP under the State of Calamity today, again based on the news of Philippine Star.

I am still hoping that things will not extend to its worst. That up to the last minute, Pepeng will make a 360 degrees turn around and spare this country of mine.

Till my next entry and take care of your selves.

TYPHOON "ONDOY"

I woke up Saturday evening to report to work when my father told me not to go to work anymore. He said there is no transportation anymore. Stubborn as i am, i prepared for work anyway. However, as i stepped out in the comforts of my home, i was surprised to see the area where i live to have the phantom of a ghost town. Well, there were no electricity. That is already given. But then, seeing the whole area totally black with almost no people in the street is a different scenario. Actually, there were few. Some in a group, claiming they had not yet reached their home since yesterday. That was exactly 12:15 midnight. No passenger jeepney on the street. Even taxi was a challenge. Wheew, i only ended up going back to the house since i can not commute. We can not use the family car as well because of the flood. Hmmm....absent at work! Bad enough.

When i went out at 6:00am to buy food, i was sur
prised that still there were no public vehicle visible in the street. Imagine a road with no vehicle coming and going. Public vehicle still in the terminal and drivers talking to each other on how they were stranded because of the flood. Hence, i have to go to the grocery on foot. Still no electricity at that time. It is good that we have a mini-grocery in our area that is 24/7. Further surprise awaits when people were buying food stock, matches and candles. It is as if people were preparing for the worst case scenario and seemed that electricity will not smile on us on the next number of days. People cursing the typhoon for the mess it caused. Some of the items in the grocery were not yet delivered because of the typhoon. That then struck me, is the typhoon ondoy really this catastrophic? We did not know whats going on outside our area considering there was no electricity. I only had the view of whats going on when electricity resumed and i am able to take a glimpse of the news online. I never realized it was this bad. People lost their homes, lives lost and some still missing. It is terrible. It is good that there are people and organizations ready to give a helping hand. For further information, allow me to facilitate the link for you about the relief efforts for the victims of typhoon ondoy. It is taken from Philippines Star. Unfortunately, Pagasa is seeing another disturbance. I, for one, am hoping this weather disturbance will not pursue.

Here is one photo caused by typhoon "Ondoy":

This photo is taken online from a123.g.akamai.net

Let us hope that those who had been affected by the typhoon will recover on the soonest possible time and that no disastrious event would struck in the near days to come.

Take care every one!
