Slipped Disk, A Continuous Struggle II

Image of Our Cervix
As I stepped into the hallway, I took it as another busy day. A sudden rush of blood to my head made a sudden turn from a fast paced work environment to a crowded Emergency Room in the Capitol Medical Hospital, Philippines. I recalled when the attending physician asked "What month are we now?" An impulse nudged me to say out loud "November". However, I bit my tongue before I could utter the word. Something was off. Deep inside, I felt that was not the answer. A panic inside my head forced me to recall my activities the day before. I remembered asking my crew the exact date during the inventory and I could picture in my head the date that I wrote then. That was when I answered "August". It took me 8 seconds to respond. Things happened fast, I was admitted and confined to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Week passed and I am still undergoing medical treatment. I underwent another MRI examination and the result disturbs me. The report stated "Disk Desiccation". According to the Ask.com, disk desiccation is a degenerative disc disease that occurs when the fluid between the spinal discs dries out. My research lead me to a more unsettling information. It states that when the protein like substance that surrounds the discs is gone, the spine becomes unable to support the weight of the body, and flexibility and mobility are severely impacted. It is apparent to me that the fight for my protruded disc is not over.

Life, my friend, is a challenge. I cannot foresee my future. However, I know that I will face this challenge one step at a time. After all, life is about hanging on and doing our best to live it to the fullest. And we do not stop living our life to the fullest because we are broke or ill. We live life to the fullest, regardless of our predicament in life.

Cheers and have a hopeful life, my anonymous friend.

An Added Year to My Age [ and less 1 to my Life Span ! ]

February 20 is the day of the year when another number has been added to my age. I am not getting younger. I am approaching 50's. What is the waiting for me in the next years of my life? I do not know. After all, who among us can tell the future, right? However, one thing is certain, I want to spend the remaining years of my life being as positive and happy as I can. Moving forward, I told myself I am NOT going to keep the company of people who made me feel that I am doomed to nothingness because I am getting old, but instead, I will keep the company of those people who made me feel that I can still still mingle with everyone and that I am still a part of something. The kind of people who will laugh with me, not laugh at me. Despite being single and old, there is still no limit to what I can be and can do. And I think that goes with everyone.

During my younger years, I chose not to avoid dealing with mean, controlling and difficult people. Well, some are not really mean but have a great sense of humor. So great that they made my age a laughing stock. I put up with bullies and insensitive people. I always say that it is wiser to build an ally than create an enemy. That is still true but from now on, I think the ally should be those who respect me, right? With my age now, I realized that much as being able to deal with difficult people is good, it is far more better to acknowledge that we, including myself, are as important as the people around us. And at the end of the day, nothing is more important than having that smile on our face because we had a healthy day.

Hence, if you are reading this, my friend, whoever you are and if you think this applies to you as well, please allow me to reiterate, you are as equally important as the people around you. And at the end of the day, nothing is more important than having that good smile because you had a healthy day. You do not have to put up with people who made you feel less. I will tell that to myself as well.

Thank you for dropping by and cheers!!!

Weekend with Exclusivity... For Me!

Yesterday was the beginning of a long weekend, well at least for me. More than that, I am anticipating of new things, positive things in fact. I started the first day of the long weekend by acquiring a DVD player that I had been wanting to have. I know what you are thinking, so trivial. But hey, that is me, so easy to please. More than that, I saw a hair dryer that is soo cute, it fits my baby. You see, I am expecting a Shih Tzu come March and I am so excited. Upon checking the other stuff in the mall, I found the one that I feel would be perfect for my incoming baby. And so that night, I slept ever so soundly and peacefully.

The next day, I stumbled on a group of women dancing in the street. They call it Samba here in the Philippines. There was a young girl, early 20's I think, who was participating. There was also a lady in her 60's. They are at different ages and walks of life. I was so amused, I stopped and inquired. I am, in fact, thinking of registering.  Hey, it would be nice to explore some of the adventurous side in us, right?

I am anticipating a restful and rejuvenating days ahead and I would like to make the most out of it. Have a rejuvenating one to every one.

Discrimination of The Lower Species? Or Simply Plain Ignorance !

I went to Sto. Rosario Church yesterday to inquire about the process on how I could request to have my incoming Shih Tzu blessed. After all, she is going to be my baby. To my surprise, they were so amused that they literally laughed on my query. With this, I am deeply offended.

The question in my mind is this, there were requests to bless non living things like cars, motorbike or even personal stuff and they were welcomed with no hesitation. These personal properties were blessed with open arms. Why then, should it be funny to bless a living creature?

Maybe these people forgot that we, humans, belong to the animal category. Remember that in our Science class, there are two kinds of existence on Earth, the living and the non-living things. The living things comprises of animals and plants. We, humans, belong to the animal type. Our difference with the other animal is that we walked in two feet and we are smarter. Feeling that we are superior to the point that we are prejudiced to the existence of the other species does not and will never make as better species. In fact, that will make us the worst.

The idea that the request to bless a living creature has been taken as amusing, much so as ridiculous, is revolting. This kind of mindset is something that I can never comprehend. If we are really a superior species, we should prove that we have the mindset to protect, not to prejudice and ridicule.

Another Side of the Greeting "Merry Christmas"

Are you open minded on the different theories about the greeting "Merry Christmas?"

Christmas is the best season of the year. It is the time for Christmas trees, ornaments, Christmas lights, gift giving, greetings, bright lights, smiles everywhere and the undeniable joyous air around us. And so, everyone will exchange that warm and gleeful greeting "Merry Christmas!" Honestly, I am one of those who spread the greeting.

For most of us,  Merry Christmas means the celebration of the birth of Christ. However, there is a different theory of this meaning. If you will look at the meaning of the word merry, it simply means cheerfulness, liveliness and festivity. The meaning is as innocent as that. The word Christ-mas, however, is quite different. Christ is pertaining to the celebrant, which is Jesus Christ. Mass is the highlight of the Catholic ceremony, which is the raising of the Eucharist, the celebration of the death of Christ

With this in mind, Merry Christmas means a festivity due to the death of Christ. Further, it has been considered a mockery of Santa Claus to be saying "Ho Ho ho, Merry Christmas". Just imagine the irony of someone saying "Ho Ho Ho, Happy death of the Christ!" Imagine people singing and dancing while saying "Happy death of the Christ!". Ironically, it is the Christians who usually use this greeting. As it is one side of the theory, one cannot help to ask if this is known to the Catholic priest. Honestly, being a Catholic myself, I would not know.

I can only guess that if there is a veracity to this theory, and if known by the Catholic priests, I suppose the greeting "Merry Christmas" meant that it is merry because the death of Christ is the redemption of humanity from our sins. However, I cannot help but to ask, this is not the Lenten season we are celebrating, it is the birth of Christ, right?

However you react to this theory, one thing is certain. As far as I am concerned, the celebration of the birth of Christ is not about when or how we celebrate it, it is how we perceive the spirit of opening ourselves to another human being. It is not the value or the price of the gift, but the smile in the eyes and the emotion that comes from the person receiving the gift that matters.

Happy Holidays every one!
